24 Hours of Le Mans update
If you've been keeping track, you'll know that a lucky few from Zuto went off to 24 Hours of Le Mans at the weekend, along with a team from our partners Pistonheads. Here's an update on the first day of racing and, if you missed the pre-Le Mans blog, here it is - We're off to Le Mans again.
After weeks of preparation, days of anticipation and hours of travelling, at 3pm on Saturday, the PH/Zuto team finally witnessed Brad Pitt wave the start flag to get Le Mans 2016 underway. Despite heavy showers, the trackside was as packed as the grandstands as spectators clamoured for a view.
The cars were led away by the safety car and remained behind it until the track had dried sufficiently for safe racing to commence. This didn’t dampen our spirits though – it was still an incredible spectacle.
The team witnessed the action from multiple locations around the track as the day wore on and the sun finally emerged. But everyone agreed that it wasn’t until night closed in that it became apparent where the true magic of Le Mans lay. The cars took on an almost surreal appearance as the sun set. And once darkness fell, the lights and noise coming from them seemed genuinely otherworldly.
Some of the team headed to the pit straight and famous Ferris wheel to get a bird’s eye view of the action, whilst others ventured out through the forest, getting as close as possible to the 200+mph Mulsanne Straight. Whatever the choice of viewing platform though, all of us were left with an unforgettable impression of the sheer power and speed of these cars.
Despite not returning to our tents until the early hours of the morning, everyone is up early once again to see the morning’s action unfold, as we close in on what’s looking to be a finish too tight to call!
